XL318

Uniquely among the Vulcan survivors, XL319 is being repainted in an early camouflage pattern from the mid 1960s. While the configuration isn't quite accurate for this scheme, it is nonetheless looking very good, and where else are you going to see a Vulcan in these roundels? This repaint and restoration was much needed as before the extensive process began, XL319 was looking rather poor. The paintwork had faded, there was moss growing all over the airframe and it has sustained significant damage in 2010 when snow caused it to tip backwards into its tail. The work of the museum staff and volunteers to make this Vulcan presentable is nothing short of amazing, they even fired up engine four for a series of one off runs in the summer of 2019. I believe the tail is currently receiving repairs to the 2010 damage, hopefully once the long restoration is complete, this will be one of the best looking Vulcans around.
