XL318
The RAF Museum owns two Vulcan B2s, the older of them is XL318 which is on display at their Hendon site. The initial allocation for the RAF Museum was XL443, but they turned that down in favour of XL318, the last 617 Sqn Vulcan. In order to transport the large aircraft to the museum, it had to be cut up and moved by road. This process was done at RAF Scampton in 1982 and there are a number of photographs of the disassembled Vulcan on both ends of its journey. By June that year, the Vulcan was reassembled inside the museum where it remains to this day. Unfortunately for this Vulcan, it is well suited to fitting in corners; it is particularly hard to photograph due to its position and the dim lighting in the hangar it is kept in.
